South African journalist missing in Djibouti, family says

JOHANNESBURG, Sept 20 - South African investigative journalist Micah Reddy has gone missing in Djibouti while on a reporting trip, his family said on Sunday, adding that they have received no information from authorities about his whereabouts since he was last heard from on Saturday.Reddy, the Africa editor for the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ), arrived in the Horn of Africa nation on Thursday and had been in regular contact with family and colleagues before communication abruptly ceased, his brother Niall Reddy told Reuters on Sunday. The Committee to Protect Journalists watchdog said in a post on X that it was "increasingly alarmed" that over 24 hours had elapsed since anyone had been able to reach Reddy or his fixer, Kooki Mahmoud."CPJ understands their reporting was not focused on Djibouti and urges Djiboutian authorities to establish their whereabouts, credibly confirm their safety, and promptly release them if detained,” Angela Quintal, CPJ Africa Director, said in a statement posted on X.Niall said Micah's last contact with him was around 11 a.m. on Saturday, while his last known communication with colleagues was at about 1 p.m. the same day. Several hours later, messages sent to him via Signal and WhatsApp were no longer being delivered, prompting concern among relatives and colleagues.Micah was staying at the Escale International hotel in Djibouti's capital and was last known to have met Mahmoud in the hotel lobby, according to his family. Relatives said the hotel had provided little information about his movements after he was last seen.Niall said his brother had not reported any threats before the trip and was not investigating the Djiboutian government during his visit. He added that South African and British officials had sought information from Djibouti's government following the journalist's disappearance, but the family had so far received no clarity on his whereabouts and no official comment from authorities.A senior official in the Djibouti presidency, Naguib Ali Taher, said that Micah had not registered for media accreditation in Djibouti."We need to check the tourist visa records to see if he came to Djibouti," he said.A spokesperson for the South African government did not immediately respond to requests for comment. Why Kanda Bongo Man was ordered to leave Kenya in 1991 - Machoka

Machoka says there was more to the viral allegations about the reasons for the concert cancellation.Machoka@50 concert tickets can be purchased on Viutickets. Rhumba star Kanda Bongo Man, popularly known as the “King of Kwassa Kwassa”, was set for a historic performance in Kenya in 1991, but the highly anticipated show was cancelled before he performed. Decades later, media personality Fred Obachi Machoka has revealed what led to the cancellation of the much-awaited performance.According to Machoka, a friend of Kanda Bongo Man and the master of ceremonies at the show, there was more to the viral allegations about the reasons for the concert cancellation. Unverified claims have long indicated that the musician was in a relationship with a female TV star in Kenya. It has further been alleged that former late President Daniel Moi also had interest in the media personality. This, therefore, was fronted as a reason for the cancellation of the show, after an alleged displeasure by the former Head of State. Kanda Bongo Man arrived in Kenya in April 1991 and performed at several major venues, including Carnivore Grounds, Bomas of Kenya, KICC and Nyayo Stadium, drawing large crowds of fans.During his performance at Nyayo Stadium, he attracted high-end people, including the late George Saitoti, and the event was filled with over 40, 000 fans. Gachagua claims Ruto on mission to trade Kenya's minerals in New York

Gachagua claims the mineral deposits in Mrima Hills in Kwale County have been granted to foreign firms.DCP party leader Rigathi Gachagua addresses Kenyans living in Spokane, Washington State, USA, on September 6, 2026. PHOTO | COURTESYDemocracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua is now accusing President William Ruto of a plot to sell Niobium deposits worth trillions of shillings to a foreign firm. Gachagua claims the mineral deposits in Mrima Hills in Kwale County have been granted to foreign firms, at the expense of the local population, who languish in poverty, calling for vigilance from the public.During an engagement in Kansas City, he claimed that President Ruto’s mission in New York, beyond attending the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, is to firm up contractual agreements with American firms to exploit niobium deposits worth trillions of shillings in Kwale County. The DCP leader said that the President is a direct beneficiary of the mineral deal, and that his UNGA attendance is a smokescreen to wrap up the deal. Gachagua's claims came two weeks after Mining Cabinet Secretary Hassan Joho told Citizen TV that no licences had been granted for mining in Mrima Hills, which is also subject to a petition at the High Court. Gachagua’s forum also featured next year’s polls, assuring Kenyans in America of commitment to opposition unity, and t...

'Senator Jirongo' exposed middlemen in G-to-G oil deal - Museveni

Jirongo told him about the backdoor oil dealings in 2019. Museveni said the revelation prompted him to end the G-to-G arrangement with Kenya.Uganda's president Yoweri Museveni speaks to the people of Butambala during the campaign season on December 20, 2025. Photo/MuseveniUgandan President Yoweri Museveni has named a Kenyan legislator he only identifies as ‘Jirongo’ as the whistleblower who exposed the irregularities in East Africa's Government-to-Government (G-to-G) oil importation deal. According to Museveni, Jirongo, told him about the backdoor oil dealings in 2019.“It was a Kenyan Senator called Jirongo who told me this around 2019. I immediately tasked the then Minister Irene Muloni to sort out that mess,” said the Ugandan leader in a tweet on Sunday evening. The revelations followed Museveni’s exposé on Thursday, in which he said Uganda had previously procured petroleum products through intermediaries in Kenya, rather than directly from the government as outlined in the G-to-G framework. “The Republic of Uganda was buying petroleum products through middlemen in Kenya. Can you imagine that? And the person who woke me up first was a senator from Kenya,” Museveni said during the groundbreaking ceremony for a 320-million-litre petroleum storage terminal in Mpigi District, Uganda.Museveni said the revelation prompted him to end the G-to-G arrangement with Kenya, and begin sour...
