Range Rovers, BMWs Among Luxury Cars Set for KRA Auction

The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has listed a large number of vehicles, including Toyota Land Cruisers, Prados, BMWs, Mercedes-Benz models, and Range Rovers, for a public auction in Mombasa. The vehicles are among overstayed goods listed in a Gazette notice dated September 18, 2026, covering cargo held at Container Freight Stations in Mombasa under Cluster B2.KRA has scheduled the online auction for November 2 to 6, 2026, through its auction portal. Prospective buyers will be allowed to inspect the goods on October 29 and 30 during office hours at the locations specified in the notice.Among the vehicles listed are several Toyota Land Cruisers and a Toyota Prado. Other models include the Audi Q7, BMW X1, Mercedes-Benz, Mercedes-Benz GLE450, Range Rover, Lexus RX and LX, Volkswagen Tiguan, and Ford Ranger.The list also features popular Japanese models such as the Toyota Harrier, RAV4, Noah, Honda Vezel, Subaru Forester, Subaru Outback, Subaru Levorg, Mazda CX-5, Suzuki Alto and Toyota Corolla Fielder Hybrid.Some of the vehicles have been in customs warehouses for considerably longer periods. The list includes vehicles discharged as far back as 2016, 2017 and 2020, alongside others imported between 2023 and 2025.The vehicle sale is part of a wider auction involving a variety of goods held at different Container Freight Stations in Mombasa. The notice also includes industrial and commercial cargo ranging from tractors, machinery and vehicle parts to construction materials and electrical equipment.Other consignments include rock salt, bronze reflective glass, PVC junction boxes, transmission line tower parts, greenhouse spare parts, stainless steel and aluminium products. KRA has also listed various consumer goods for disposal, including used household items, clothes, shoes, furniture, dishes, bags, books, stationery, carpets and packaging materials. Food-related consignments include Thai white rice, spaghetti, canned tuna, brown sugar and assorted sweets.Some of the other cargo includes refrigerators and freezers, surgical devices, batteries, glazed tiles, mosquito coils, artificial grass and other imported commercial goods. The notice also contains consignments of chemicals including methanol and ethanol, which are listed separately from the ordinary consumer and commercial goods.The notice further lists cargo such as backhoe loaders, tractors and other heavy equipment, showing that the November exercise is not limited to vehicles but covers a broad range of overstayed imports held in customs custody.Under Section 42 of the East African Community Customs Management Act, 2004, goods that remain in a customs warehouse and are not lawfully removed within the prescribed period can be treated as abandoned after the required notice period and offered for public auction. The September 18 notice gives owners 30 days to remove the goods before they are treated as abandoned. Buyers can view the items on October 29 and 30, ahead of the online auction running from November 2 to 6, 2026.
