The Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) has secured CCTV footage and motor vehicle records as investigations continue into the abduction of Standard Group Editor Alex Kiprotich. IPOA Vice-Chairperson Ann Wanjiku Mwangi said investigators have identified footage that may be relevant to the case and obtained records relating to a vehicle of interest. The update comes as IPOA works to determine the circumstances behind Kiprotich’s reported abduction along the Nakuru-Gilgil highway on September 1. Kiprotich was later found near Masinga Dam hours after he was reportedly intercepted by armed men. Mwangi said IPOA has already taken several steps in the probe, including processing scenes tied to the incident. “The investigation team has visited and processed the identified primary and secondary scenes,” she said. The investigation team has also recorded statements from Kiprotich and a key witness as it works to reconstruct what happened before, during, and after the alleged abduction. Mwangi said IPOA has engaged several institutions and individuals that may hold relevant information, including the Standard Media Group, the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA), and the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA).
