Anthropic says its models were misused for biological weapons research, surveillance and cyber attacks

A report from Anthropic released on Thursday details several incidents in which people used the company's AI models "in ways that could support biological weapons development", among other things.The company's decision to release the report comes after several high-profile incidents related to AI models led to concern about whether they were becoming too powerful and a risk to public safety. The report "covers how people tried to misuse Claude – for cyber attacks, influence operations, surveillance, biology, and building weapons – and how we found and stopped them".Anthropic said it was able to disrupt every operation mentioned, and that it had made sure to keep track of lessons learnt with hopes of bolstering the company's protection.
